The much-awaited augmented reality-based game in The Witcher franchise will launch on July 21st. Developer CD Projekt Red in collaboration with Spokko SP. z o.o. officially confirms The Witcher Monster Slayer to arrive this month on all major mobile platforms.
After a successful launch of The Witcher mobile card game, creators now aim to delve into a realm of Augmented Reality (AR) with the pre-registration of this monster-hunting AR mobile game already open on Google Play Store for compatible devices.
It goes without saying that the Witcher games are among the most popular modern gaming properties. Such is the level of enthusiasm surrounding the beloved franchise, that Netflix earmarked a heavy budget for producing a hit TV series featuring all the original characters. Already a fan favorite of millions across the world on PC and console, the mobile version is about to receive its due attention in the form of The Witcher: Monster Slayer.
Spokko handles the creative production and publishing process. Besides they seem to have done a decent job with regards to staying true to the original concept with a slight twist in the story which takes place before the protagonist became the fierce legend in the original Witcher from CD Projekt Red.
This could come as a bit of a letdown to the hardcore fandom which won’t witness established heroes making an appearance in this game. However, you’ll get to play an augmented reality RPG set in the world of The Witcher on the go.
The initial premise alludes to an augmented reality project made for fans using iOS and Android devices. In case you’re wondering what the game is all about, here is a chunk of the synopsis from the press release:
In a time where monsters freely roam the land in large numbers, the relatively new role of ‘witcher’ has become essential across the Continent. In Monster Slayer, players will see the world around them transformed into the dark-fantasy realm known from The Witcher universe. As a freshly trained witcher themselves, they will engage with location-based gameplay and advanced augmented reality features to track down and hunt bloodthirsty monsters lurking nearby.
Here is a trailer that Sokko shared to provide an early preview of their upcoming title.
Android users can pre-register on Google Play Store to begin their monster hunting journey. Early birds will get the benefit of unlocking the epic Kaer Morhen Steel in their inventory at the time of the lunch of the game; this special sword gives gamers 10% experience points for every monster kill.
As the anticipation picks up near the release date, more pertinent information will surface online. Being a massive nerd for augmented reality games, I am eagerly looking forward to The Witcher: Monster Slayer. The famous Witcher world unfolding in AR has the potential to open up a whole new dynamic that promises to attract new players and expand the existing fan base.
