The Notch has become the standard on most smartphones in 2018. Following on the footsteps of Apple, Android phone manufacturers are embracing the concept of the notch at the top end of the display. First ever iPhone X with the notch and no physical home button was release last year. Since then Android OEMs, known for imitating Apple’s phone designs, jumped on the bandwagon to release a slew of similar looking devices. One downside is that the notch is not proving to be everyone’s cup of tea. Some smartphones users are getting used to it while others downright detest it. Follow the steps in the following guide to hide notch on most Android smartphones. In a frantic race to ditch the bezels around the screen, manufacturers have decided to bring a new design which dictates that there should be a notch on the top edge of a smartphone to fit in essential sensors. While the notch allows for an increased real-estate in a smaller form factor, it does have its skeptics who contend that it get intrusive and sullies the user experience especially when watching videos in a landscape mode. This guide will help you get through this issue.

Manufacturers, like Huawei, are aware of this dichotomy of opinions, and therefore offer a built-in solution to disable notch from within their OS. However, many other manufacturers who have notch display smartphones, are not offering this ability within their operating systems. To get around this issue, you have to make do with a third-party app that is available in the Play Store. After testing various solutions, we have found Nacho Notch to be the most reliable option.

Hide Notch On Android Smartphones With Nacho Notch

If you’re phone doesn’t have a built-in option to hide the notch, you can use the Nacho Notch app to achieve the same result. This lightweight app runs in the background while consume very little system resources and places a border around the top edge – do note that the border size varies according to the Notch which in most cases is exactly equal to the notification border.

Step to hide the notch on your Android phone:

Step 1 – Download Nacho Notch app from the Play Store.

Step 2 – The app needs to be running in the background to be able to perform its main functions, so grant necessary permissions during setup.

Step 3 – To use the Hide Notch feature, pull the Notification panel down twice to edit it and tap on Edit button on top. On some smartphones, it’s shown as a gear icon or something similar to represent editing options.

Step 4 – Now, drag the Hide Notch toggle to the active toggle panel.

Step 5 – Next, tap on the toggle to remove Notch.

Step 6 – On some devices, you might notice that the black borders implemented by the app are not round. To enable round bezels, tap on the Nacho Notch app shortcut in your app drawer. From the list of two options, switch the Enable Rounded Corners slider to ON position.
