Android 13: What’s New In Google’s Next Big Firmware Update!

Here’s everything new in Google’s Android 13 major firmware update. Out of nowhere Google announced in a blog that the Pixel phones are receiving the stable Android 13 right now after a series of beta releases. In terms of new additions and overall aesthetic enhancements, this update may lack the number of features we saw in the previous Android 12 operating system update. Still, the changes included in this year’s software are important to ensure the overall stability of the device in the long run.

In recent months, we have had several tech media outlets reporting about Android 13 and what it brings, and here, we will look at everything new in the update. This information is relevant, particularly for those who intend to get the new update on their devices.

Android 13 Features Auto-Theming Icons, Now Playing Widget, Material You Theme, Alternative Lock Screen Setup, And Much More

The first feature that many would notice is the automatic theming system for icons. Basically, it allows Android firmware to auto-theme icons to match the operating system color and style.

However, you should keep in mind that at present the feature is only working on Pixel devices. Furthermore, the feature is only going to function in apps where developers add monochrome icons for the Material You to use.

What this means is you may not get the full support outside of the stock themes and apps. But we should not discount the possibility of other OEMs adopting this feature and improving upon it in ways that end up better than the original effect.

Android 13 also increases the number of options for the Material You theme. This bodes well for those looking to enjoy a truly personalized experience on their device. Although this feature is currently limited to Android 13 but we hope other devices also get more features soon.

Another useful inclusion in Android 13 is the ability to toggle between two clock styles on the lock screen. Users can opt to go with the single-line layout or choose to stick with the current double-line layout. The feature may lack the customization space that Samsung offers but it counts as a welcome arrival nonetheless.

The Now Playing widget gets a new look as well. When enabled, the album cover art consumes the entire background of the widget interface with controls realigned to accommodate aesthetic changes.

In addition to the features mentioned above, version 13 of Android comes with a boatload of quality of life improvements to keep pace with the ever-advancing technological landscape. Here are some of the prominent changes below.

  • Native Bluetooth LE Audio
  • Smarthome controls unlocked
  • Language setting changeable per app
  • Better QR scanner support
  • Improved clipboard features
  • Audio output selector revamped

Android 13 also brings a private photo-picker which adds a layer of security for users while picking photos. Additionally, you can access permissions for media at a granular level coupled with better integration of fast pair, and much more.

Bear in mind that the feature that we have discussed above make up the core features of Android 13. When other OEMs release their own customized Android 13 renditions, we might get even more on top of the stock features.
