Game development studio and publisher Electronic Arts have confirmed their return to the mythical landscape of Middle-earth after a hiatus of several years. A few days ago, EA issued a press release in which the creator of Apex Legends affirmed its commitment to rekindle a partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises. As a result, both gaming houses will collaborate to develop The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth. The game’s mobile version is currently under development under EA Capital Games.
As of this writing, information is sketchy about the nitty-gritty details of the upcoming title other than it is going to be a turn-based free-to-play collectible RPG.
The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will feature collectible characters from the beloved Hobbit and Lord of the Rings franchises. But nothing is known as to the release date yet.
The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth Turn-Based RPG Arriving On Mobile
Announcing the project, Malachi Boyle, vice president of mobile RPG for Electronic Arts, said, “We are incredibly excited to partner with The Saul Zaentz Company and Middle-earth Enterprises on the next generation of mobile role-playing games.”
Adding more, he said, “The team is filled with fans of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, and each day they bring their tremendous passion and talents together to deliver an authentic experience for players. The combination of high-fidelity graphics, cinematic animations, and stylized art immerses players in the fantasy of Middle-earth where they’ll go head-to-head with their favorite characters.”
We can expect a quality output considering EA has the experience of working on The Lord of the Rings games with The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-earth and The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King RTS title.
EA’s recent foray into mobile gaming indicates that the gaming giant takes the platform seriously and views it as a profitable channel to carve out additional revenue streams. The latest launch of Apex Legends Mobile on Android and iOS reaffirms that commitment.
