According to the latest reports, Square Enix is currently leading the work on a Guardian of the Galaxy game. With an enviable track record of repeatedly delivering several smash-hit series such as Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy among others, the highly respected game studio is adopting the popular comic book movie into a video game. This news first saw the light of day thanks to industry insider and VentureBeat journalist, Jeff Grubb.
During a live stream on his Twitch channel a few days ago, Grubb informed his viewers he overheard someone saying that the company was in the middle of working on the title. Elaborating further, he confirmed that the game is indeed real with Square Enix spearheading development efforts.
Unfortunately, he stopped short of further expanding on the topic during the stream, which you can check for yourself in the video shared below.
That said, the likelihood of this rumor manifesting is very high given the same company previously released Marvel’s Avengers game.
With E3 2021 just days away, things will become more clear with regards to the alleged Guardians of the Galaxy game. Square Enix is on course to unveil more information pertaining to some of its upcoming games at the digital conference, with many fans anxiously counting down the hours to learn more about the next Final Fantasy 16 and other titles.
Although Marvel’s Avengers game failed to live up to its hype, a Guardian of the Galaxy game could provide a much-needed uplift to the developer. Sure, it all depends on what type of approach Square Enix decides to pursue related to the general tone and making gameplay style more appealing to mass audiences. That said, regardless of whether or not more information about the game comes out in the open at E3, we will hear more in the coming weeks and months, especially as more game conferences take place.
