Here Are All The New Features Coming With iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4

Every year, Apple announced what it had in store for iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 in terms of new features in 2021. However, as with any new firmware, several operating system elements needed polishing before roll out to the public. Several months after their announcement, many features did not become part of the final OS for the general public. That said, iOS 15.4 and iPad 15.4 offer more than any other previous update since the iOS 15 global launch. Below, we compiled a list of significant attractions featured in iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4.

Unlock Device Using Face ID With Mask On

You can finally unlock iPhone or iPad using a Face ID while wearing the mask. The features will utilize a unique processing algorithm to identify the device owner. All you need is to rescan your face with a mask on to activate this function. But note that this feature currently supports only the iPhone 12 series and the latest iPhone 13 series.

120Hz ProMotion For Third-Party Apps

iOS 15.4 at long last adds 120Hz ProMotion support for third-party apps. For some reason, Apple restricted this technology to its stock apps. Up until now, most third-party apps on iPhone 13 Pro devices could only achieve a screen refresh rate of up to 60Hz. But this is about to change with iOS 15.4. Once third-party app developers update their respective applications to take advantage of Apple’s 120Hz ProMotion display technology, you can enjoy smoother scrolling and browsing.

A New App For Trading In Old Devices

Although not official, Apple is allegedly working on a new app that allows people to trade in old devices. If the application does arrive, users won’t have to go through the usually cumbersome verification process before getting a price estimate from Apple.

Add Notes to Keychain Passwords

Apple is finally allowing users to add notes next to their Keychain passwords. Up until now, only third-party password managers had this feature. With iOS 15.4, Keychain takes a much-needed forward-looking step in the right direction to enhance the overall usability.

37 New Emojis

iOS 15.4 comes with 37 new Emojis, including 75 skin tones for Emoji 14. In total, there are 112 characters in the mix. Here is a screenshot of some of the prominent emojis.

Universal Control On iPad

Finally, iPad 15.4 and macOS Monterey 12.3 get Universal Control support. After months of testing, the feature is ready for the public. Once enabled, you can use your iPad running iPadOS 15.4 and MacBook running macOS Monterey 12.3 together. For instance, you can use the MacBook keyboard and trackpad with an iPad.

Miscellaneous

  • New “Corner Gestures’ section under “Quick Notes” in the Notes app on iPadOS 15.4
  • DualSense Adaptive trigger feature
  • Choose “Still Frame” or “Poster Art” under Preferences in the Apple TV app
  • Sign in to websites and apps compatible with passkey using the new Passkey feature

These are all the features Apple is about to release with iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4. For now, upcoming firmware is under testing in the developer community. Registered members are trying to unearth any new hidden features that might come across. Moreover, Apple could choose to delay features depending on their visibility status for public use. That said, chances of that happening are slim. We guess iOS 15.4 and iPadOS 15.4 will probably see the light of day at the Spring event in March.
