Facebook has been under the cosh due to several data breaches in these last few years. Despite all the negative press being heaped on the social network giant, and tumbling stock price to go with it, the activity on the platform seems no sign of abating. Large user base always offers a palatable target for hackers to steal the most crucial commodity of the information age: user data. Recent hacker attack has compromised account data of millions of Facebook users. If you’re concerned about the privacy and security of your Facebook information and activities, here is how you can check whether your Facebook account was targeted in the recent hacker attack.
Hackers recently managed to steal account data from millions of user accounts on Facebook. If you have been one of the unfortunate victims of the security breach, or are unsure whether your details were hacked in the attack, here is what you need to do to find out about your account’s status.
The latest attack, which occurred back in September, exploited the vulnerability in the “view as” Facebook feature to access millions of user accounts.
In total, around 30 – 50 million accounts were compromised to extract personal information. Account name, email linked to the profile, and phone number of almost 15 million accounts got hacked in the process. To make matters worse, the breach also exposed location, device information, recent searches, and gender of more than 15 million users.
Check If Your Facebook Account Is Protected Against Hacker Attack
Facebook has since plugged the loopholes that enabled the attack and notified users who have been affected. Moreover, to be safe in the future, the company is now also advising users to follow the official channels to verify if their data is safe using the Facebook’s Help Center.
To check your account safety status, log in to your Facebook account, head over to the support website, scroll down to the bottom of the page where you will see the option “Is my Facebook account impacted by this security issue?”, click on it and follow the on-screen instructions.
If your account is hacked, you will see the information that the hackers have been able to take from it and which part of your account remained safe.
In case of an unauthorized access, Facebook suggests not to take any further action to secure your profile as the company itself plugs all the gaps in the background.
