Here are the steps to get the dark theme on Chrome in Windows 10. Google Chrome now has this feature that allows Windows 10 PC users to apply night theme on the interface of the web browser. Want to use Chrome with a dark theme? Here is how to enable the new dark mode.
At long last, Google’s Chrome web browser is getting native dark theme. The new change to the interface was expected to first arrive on macOS Mojave, but now, the latest Chrome preview confirms night theme for the Windows 10 version of the browser. This comes on the heels of integration of Chrome notifications with the native Windows 10 notification system.
Head over to 9To5Google if you want to implement the dark theme through a –force-dark- flag at the time of starting the browser.
In the following tutorial, you will learn the steps to try the upcoming dark theme on Chrome before it’s officially rolled out for public.
Enable Dark Theme on Google Chrome
Follow the instructions below to enable the night theme on Google Chrome Windows 10 web browser:
- First of all, download and install Chrome Canary version.
- Launch Chrome.
- In the taskbar, click the app button.
- Click the Pin to taskbar option.
- Now right-click on the app once more.
- Then right-click the Google Chrome and hit the Properties option.
- Now click the Shortcut tab.
- Enter the following flag at the of the path in the “Target” field:
The Target: field should look like this:
“C:\Users\xboxl\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome SxS\Application\chrome.exe” –force-dark-mode
- In the end, click Apple and OK buttons to finish the process.
Once all of the above steps are complete, Google Chrome will start with dark theme everytime you launch it using the taskbar icon of the web browser.
If you’re not happy with the new appearance and want to go back to the previous interface color scheme, apply the same steps mentioned above, but simply delete the –force-dark-mode flag in the target field.
The Dark Theme for Chrome is still under development, but don’t expect it to be functional by default anytime soon. While the overall theme may look like a finished product, as such black fonts menus are still pretty much unreadable in the dark mode at the time of this writing.
